Candida esophagitis mimicking esophageal malignancy on 18FDG PET/CT.

چکیده
Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) has been widely used in detecting malignancy. However, benign conditions, including infections and inflammatory lesions, may also show 18FDG accumulation (1). Although candida esophagitis is the most common cause of esophagitis in immunocompromised patients (2), it can also occur in patients with no predisposing risk factors (3), in whom it is more likely to be asymptomatic.

Extensive Tuberculous Lymphadenitis Mimicking Distant Lymph Node Metastasis on F-18FDG PET/CT in a Patient with a History of Malignant Melanoma
18-Fluoredeoxyglucose position emission tomography and computed tomography (F-18FDG PET/CT) scanning has been useful in the evaluation of malignant disorders and has been extensively used in cancer screening. However, F-18FDG uptake was not found to be specific for cancer diagnosis. Here, we describe increased F-18FDG uptake on PET/CT caused by extensive tuberculous lymphadenitis in a 62-year-o...
متن کاملThyroid incidentalomas on 18FDG-PET/CT: a metabolico-pathological correlation
BACKGROUND Thyroid incidentaloma is defined as an unsuspected thyroid lesion found on imaging study or while performing a surgery non-related to the thyroid gland. Most recent scientific literature tends to demonstrate a detection rate of 0.1-4.3% for incidental findings of thyroid focal uptake identified by 18F-fluorodeoxyglugose Positron Emission Tomography with computed tomography (18FDG-PET...
متن کاملPersonalized 18FDG Dose Synthesis Using BG-75 Generator: 1st Year Experience at JCI Accredited Tertiary Care Hospital in Pakistan
Background: Compact cyclotrons are getting popular to fulfill enormous current demands of PET tracers. Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan has acquired the first smallest footprint of BG-75 Generator for 18FDG-based PET/CT clinical imaging. We are sharing our experience of BG-75 in the first year (December 2015-November 2016) after commissioning. Mater...
متن کاملSignificantly Low Effective Dose from 18FDG PET/CT Scans Using Dose Reducing Strategies: "Lesser is Better".
BACKGROUND Fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) PET/CT imaging has become an important component of the management paradigm in oncology. However, the significant imparted radiation exposure is a matter of growing concern especially in younger populations who have better odds of survival. The aim of this study was to estimate the effective dose received by patients having whole body 18FFDG PET/CT scanning...
متن کاملAssociation of Esophageal Inflammation, Obesity and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: From FDG PET/CT Perspective
OBJECTIVE Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is associated with bothersome symptoms and neoplastic progression into Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. We aim to determine the correlation between GERD, esophageal inflammation and obesity with 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). METHODS We studied 458 subjects who underwent...
